The Cool Cat Club is a small, UK-based cat food subscription service. Their story started when the founders of Cool Cat Club discovered a stray cat in a parking lot and subsequently took him in. They began feeding him standard supermarket cat food, but he didn’t look as healthy as they’d like.

They then switched to premium brands, but discovered they were too costly and decided they would take it upon themselves to make a change. They worked with renowned veterinarians and nutritionists for 18 months to develop affordable, nutritious cat food. All their recipes are grain-free, hypoallergenic, and have a substantial meat content.

What Did Our Test Cats Think?

To try this food I ordered the taster box, which arrived with a selection of wet pouches, trays of pate, and dry food. The box also included a handy checkbox list so that owners can keep track of flavours their cat likes or doesn’t like. They also included a handwritten thank you card, which was a nice, personalised touch.

To conduct the taste test, I sampled my cats on all three available varieties: pate, wet food, and dry kibble. The chicken pate got the best reaction I have seen yet from one of my cats. He was visibly excited before I had even placed down his bowl and I’ve never seen him eat so fast, so the pate is definitely a hit. The pate itself was smooth with an inoffensive odour, and looked rich with moisture.

The wet food also received positive reactions from both cats. I expected the food to be chunkier, but the texture seemed very similar to the pate. This wasn’t an issue for my cats, especially as one is lacking in the teeth department but it’s worth noting if your cat likes a chewier experience.

One of my cats is already fond of dry food, and predictably wolfed it down. The real test was my other boy who regularly snubs anything that isn’t meaty and covered in gravy or jelly. I was delighted to find a clean bowl, so the taste test was a success on both counts!

One thing I should mention is that I think the feeding guidelines may be inaccurate for your average cat. They recommend 2-3 pouches per day, however I found even one pouch to be too much for either of my cats. Realistically, I think one pouch per cat would be enough for two meals.

To get a better understanding of what The Cool Cat Club cat food looks like, let’s take a closer look at their popular Chicken pate cat food recipe.

Their chicken flavour pate only contains three ingredients. First on the list is 60% chicken, an excellent animal-based protein source. Although not listed in the ingredients, the website states the recipe contains chicken breast, heart, and liver.

Chicken heart is rich in taurine, an essential nutrient for cats that keeps their vision, digestion and immune system healthy among other benefits. Chicken liver contains several nutrients including folic acid, vitamins A, B, C and D, and protein.

Sunflower is the recipe’s primary fat source, which is disappointing as a more species-appropriate oil such as fish oil would have been preferred here. Finally there are added minerals, which include zinc, manganese and copper.

Overall, this recipe is rich in animal-based nutrients, high in moisture, and contains no grains, preservatives, or fillers.

Ingredients:

Chicken 60%, Sunflower Oil, Minerals.

Where And How Is It Made?

Though the website doesn’t provide information on where the ingredients are sourced, they are a Cheshire-based company that develop all their own recipes. To preserve nutrients, they gently steam their wet food, and they assert that their dry food contains over 5x as much freshly prepared meat as most supermarket brands.

The majority of their packaging is also recyclable, which makes The Cool Cat Club an eco-conscious choice.

How Does The Subscription Work?

If you’re new to The Cool Cat Club, you will only have the option to order a £5 taster box to make sure the food is right for your cat. The website doesn’t ask for as many details about your cat as other subscription services do; you will only need to tell them your cat’s name and breed.

They also ask if you would like to be sent 30, 60, or 90 pouches per month assuming you want to carry on the subscription after the initial taster box.

After becoming a member of The Cool Cat Club, it’s easy to adjust your kitty’s meal plan via the dashboard. Despite a less personalised initial ordering process, the amount of customizability is impressive.

It’s also incredibly easy to cancel, as the option to do so isn’t hidden and no phone calls or emails are required.

How Much Does It Cost?

The cost relies on the sort of subscription you choose. Dry food only is the least expensive option, and you’ll be able to receive 1.6kg (roughly two servings a day) for £37.99, approximately £1.26 a day.

You can get 60 pouches of wet food for £39.99, or opt for a combination priced at around £50. A pouch of wet food costs about 67p, so you will only be paying around 33p per day if you use just one pouch for two meals.

Who Should Try The Cool Cat Club?

The Cool Cat Club is an excellent option for cat owners who care about the environment. Owners can be confident that their cat is receiving a healthy amount of meat with no hidden additives or sugars. Those who want to improve their cat’s diet without paying premium prices should consider The Cool Cat Club.

What We Liked:

  • Eco-friendly packaging
  • Cats love the taste
  • No artificial additives or sugars
  • Cheaper than most premium brands
  • Steam-cooked meat preserves nutrients

What We Didn’t Like:

  • Subscription-only
  • Addition of sunflower oil is disappointing
  • Higher ash content than expected
