Hi,

I have 4 new Maine Coon Kittens and one has decided she loves sitting on the edge of the tub and pawing at the bubbles.  Because Maine Coons have a reputation of liking water, I wonder as she gets old will she try to jump in.  Are bubble baths toxic to cats?  Any ingredients I should avoid?  Thanks.

Hi,

The ingredients in most bubble bath formulas are toxic to cats. See if you can find pet safe bubbles - Smarty Kat made a bubble formula with catnip in it, if you can find that or something similar like Meowijuana's product and there are others 🙂

Hi there,

Thanks for your question. To answer you, a lot of bubble baths can have harmful ingredients for cats such as peppermint oil, citrus oil, clove oil to mention a few. The only safe ones would be cat formulated shampoos/washes or the catnip bubbles that ms poppy mentions above.

If your cat is only pawing at the bubbles then the risk of toxicity is low but if they lick their paws afterwards and ingest a large amount, it could some vomiting and diarrhea. Especially in young kittens whose tummies are more sensitive.

I hope that helps,

Aisling
