My cat always liked grooming/cleaning herself. Just a few weeks ago, I noticed a bald spot slightly above her right leg with a scab. I took her to the vet who said it was due to stress and that she was overgrooming that one spot resulting in the  hair loss and scab.

Hi Kimberly

I’m sorry your cat is over-grooming at present. Thank you for consulting your vet. Increased grooming is usually associated with either distress, skin disease or over-grooming of painful areas. May I ask what did your vet recommend? Here’s a recent article we wrote about signs your cat might be stressed and how to help; https://cats.com/signs-of-stress-in-cats . Furthermore, the environment plays a significant role in the proportion of stress especially for indoor only cats, to assess potential stressors within your cat’s environment please complete this Feline Stress Audit.

Warm regards, Melina
